These locking pliers were ideal for connecting 1-inch pipes. I used this tool on an elbow fitting and an old larger "monkey wrench" on the pipe in an area with limited access . The tight space made it impossible to move any wrench more than 1/8th turn. These locking pliers made it easy to use a channel lock pliers or a monkey wrench to turn the pipe by 1/8th turn while the elbow was held steady - and then move the monkey wrench without losing a bite on the pipe with these locking pliers that would occur using two monkey wrenches. That made it less onerous to make 4 revolutions of the pipe using many small movements while avoiding smashing knuckles into a wall stud.

Bought this to assist with wiring my model railroad layout. Tired of using the cheap crimpers that don't do a good job of crimping and holding on to the wire. These do a great job. They can be adjusted to vary the amount of crimp pressure. Definitely sturdy. If you have arthritis in your hands or other issues of the sort be aware that this crimper requires a good level of grip strength to use. Good crimps require good pressure. I expect these to last a long time.
